Be afraid. Be very afraid. That’s what Ron Rosenbaum has to say about an issue most of us would like to think we left behind with the Cold War: A nuclear end-of-days. He speaks with Vox Tablet’s Sara Ivry about his new book, How the End Begins: The Road to a Nuclear World War III, on next week’s podcast. It’s not a topic that naturally offers up a lot of yucks, but they did manage one moment of levity:

Also coming up next week in Tablet Magazine: An excerpt from Rosenbaum’s book.

Tablet is committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing on Jewish life, all free of charge. We take pride in our community of readers, and are thrilled that you choose to engage with us in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse). Starting today, then, we are asking people who'd like to post comments on the site to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping us bring you the ambitious journalism that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with us free of charge via Facebook, Twitter, and our other social media channels, or write to us at Each week, we’ll select the best letters and publish them in a new letters to the editor feature on the Scroll.

We hope this new largely symbolic measure will help us create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all of our readers, and, as always, we thank you deeply for your support.

Hi – really very good web site you could have created. I appreciated reading through this writing. I did want to issue a short review to tell you that the actual design of this web page is incredibly aesthetically delightful. I utilized to be a graphic designer, currently I am a copy editor in chief for a marketing corporation. I’ve always enjoyed playing with details processing systems and am trying to learn computer code in my free time (which there is never enough of lol).

Just wanna remark that you have a very decent internet site, I love the style and design it really stands out.
