Obama Finds the Promised Land Again

Republicans expand their control of the House of Representatives

Print Email

With a coalition of women and non-white voters as well as about 70% of the Jewish vote, President Barack Obama managed to win reelection by a narrow popular vote (at the time of this writing) and what looks to be a pretty sizable margin in the electoral college.

Democrats had a good night in the Senate and Republicans expanded their majority in the House of Representatives. In some of the races we highlighted earlier today, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach did not win his election in New Jersey and neither did Josh Mandel in Ohio or Linda Lingle in Hawaii.

Former West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel beat Adam Hasner for a congressional seat and in the Sherman-Berman Showdown in California, Brad Sherman seemed to have an early lead. In a hotly contested race in Nevada, Representative Shelley Berkley lost her bid for the Senate. In Illinois, Brad Schneider won a seat in an upset against the incumbent in the 10th district.

Check back with us tomorrow for more news as tallies are finalized, hangovers set in, and the picture gets a little bit clearer.

Tablet is committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing on Jewish life, all free of charge. We take pride in our community of readers, and are thrilled that you choose to engage with us in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse). Starting today, then, we are asking people who'd like to post comments on the site to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping us bring you the ambitious journalism that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with us free of charge via Facebook, Twitter, and our other social media channels, or write to us at Each week, we’ll select the best letters and publish them in a new letters to the editor feature on the Scroll.

We hope this new largely symbolic measure will help us create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all of our readers, and, as always, we thank you deeply for your support.

Congratulations President Obama. Glad to have you as our leader for another 4 years!

ALOHA ADAM:…. you are WRONG!; the republicans LOST FIVE(5) seats in the House of Representatives; they did NOT “…expand their control….”!
