Today in Tablet Magazine, columnists Michelle Goldberg and Lee Smith disagree about the reasons Iran’s birthrate has decreased. Responding to Smith’s column from last week, Goldberg argues that a declining birthrate is often an effect of increased education and opportunities for women. Smith counters that in Iran, the opportunities for women—and for men, too—are very few.
