In a new ad campaign, the Israeli government argues that Israelis who marry Americans and live in the United States are doomed to lose touch with their Israeliness, doing both their (original) country and themselves a disservice. Senior writer Liel Leibovitz and his wife, Lisa Ann Sandell—a ninth-generation Israeli and an American Jew, respectively (and parents to an unbelievably adorable and unbelievably tiny girl named Lily)—explain today in Tablet Magazine not only why they are deeply offended by the ad campaign but why they are proof positive that it’s simply wrong.
