Each Monday, we choose the most interestingly Jewish announcement from that Sunday’s New York Times Weddings/Celebrations section. As many summer Mondays are, today was competitive: An ADL research analyst (whose mother worked at DC Comics!); nuptials where the rabbi was also the father of the groom; and a special shout-out to college-classmate-of-The-Scroll Jon Miller and his new wife.

But, I mean, these worthy contenders are up against one wedding profile in which the bride exclaims, “A guy who could quote Martin Buber and sing a song from an obscure musical, all in the span of five minutes?” Game, set, match.

In fact, the bride, Sarah Silverman (not that Sarah Silverman), has been mentioned a couple times in Tablet Magazine because, as Sarah Aroeste, she is a noted Ladino singer (Aroeste is the name of her mother’s family, which hails from Greece and which spoke the Spanish-inflected cryto-Jewish dialect); the ceremony itself had a Spanish tinge. The bride’s late father, meanwhile, was once executive director of the American Jewish Commitee. The groom, Jeffrey Blaugrand, mainly gets points for being able to keep up, both with the singing and everything else. Mazel tov to the happy couple!
