Tablet is committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing on Jewish life, all free of charge. We take pride in our community of readers, and are thrilled that you choose to engage with us in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse). Starting today, then, we are asking people who'd like to post comments on the site to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping us bring you the ambitious journalism that brought you here in the first place.

Readers can still interact with us free of charge via Facebook, Twitter, and our other social media channels, or write to us at Each week, we’ll select the best letters and publish them in a new letters to the editor feature on the Scroll.

We hope this new largely symbolic measure will help us create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all of our readers, and, as always, we thank you deeply for your support.

Maybe I’ll bother tracking down the documentation later, but all three of the panelists mentioned accused Israel of war crimes in Gaza prior to their investigation. The whole charade bore no resemblance whatsoever to an honest inquiry.

Alter says:

fw: Do you suppose that Israel’s investigation; being conducted not by outsiders but by insiders can be expected to produce honest results? Does it mean anything to you that the very follow up report Goldstone relies upon, the findings of a UN committee of experts headed by Mary McGowan Davis, a former New York Supreme Court judge, stated. “There is no indication that Israel has opened investigations into the actions of those who designed, planned, ordered and oversaw Operation Cast Lead.” Neither of course has Hamas, but are we to judge Israel’s conduct by what Hamas does? Are you proud of the fact that 100 Palestinians mostly civilians including children were killed for every Israeli during operation Cast Lead? Did you notice any reversal in the Goldstone report which noted that a single bullet to the head killed some Palestinian children, presumably by a sniper? Do you believe that almost barring Goldstone from his own grandson’s bar mitzvah had anything to do with his turnaround? Do you realize that Israel’s thumbing its nose at the rest of the world will not stand, and that buying American support cannot last forever? Israel’s future cannot be secured by military power or by United States support. Look at Mubarak. Goldstone’s reversal is a farce and a transparent one at that. We do Israel no favor by engaging in blind support like this and seeking the release of Jonathan Pollard, an admitted traitor to the United States.

Yaakov Hillel says:

Bunk bunk and more bunk I am talking about this guy Alter who has added his two cents before me. The Goldstone group admit today that 600 warriors and not 300 were killed of the Gazans making the major part of the Gazans killed in the cast lead 600 combatants. The Palestiian children are taught to shoot a gun at the age of 6 in order to kill Israelis. If I could add a picture here of their training I have many. In Lebanon a palestinuian child of 11 killed an Israeli General. You can cut the crap of children. a child with a rifle equals a grown up with a rifle. a child is a robot where a grown up is a thinking being knowing that each soldier is a son a brother or a father of some one else. Unless you are muslim you think many times over before you shoot. Israeli’s entering Gaza did not shoot for fun they shot for self protection. and if a canon or machine gun was used from an apartment or a room in any structure a tank was called in to destroy that room where the heavy firing came from. Muslims will make every effort to kill Jews especially if they are the Arab type, today the Persians and Turks have joined the band wagon. Islam today is interpreted in such a way that the Muaslims have a ticket to the Garden of Eden where as the Jews will burn in the eternal fires of hell. If a Muslim on his way up with the help of explosives strapped to his body he gets an extra prize there of seventy two black eyed Virgins. It pays to become a Muslim the rewards in the world to come are great. I repeat as far as children go, they are easy to brainwash, and if a, Arab can use a child as a human shield as has been shown in many pictures they have no problem in straping charges to children and sending them into Israeli protected zones to murder. This has been found many times in aza as well as in Judea and Samaria. In order for Israel to continue to exist it must retake Gaza and stop this ridiculous talk of another Palestinian State. The majority of Jordan is Palestinian by far, and t

Yaakov Hillel says:

they are ruled by a minority of bedouins. This was a treaty made in the first world war between the bedouins and England, when England was spliting up the world and giving out pieces to who ever did favors for them. The Jews had the Jewish brigade, and Weitzman the chemist made explosives which set off their bombs. They also promised the Jews to start with all of Palestine then they gave everything on the other side of the Jordan to the bedouins. being the land was practically desolayte at the time they did not have problems. England turned Israel into a magnet for Muslims and they let very few Jews into the country and where there where a few thousand Arabs at the beginning of the 1900’s lived by 1945 there were hudreds of thousands who came from distant lands from Tajikistan till Morroco making up a big mixture of peoples from all over. In 1967 an Egyptian born Yasser Arafat created the first palestinian people who dcided that they are going to replace the Jews. Before hand the only people who considered themselves Palestinians were Jews. In the early 1940’s a team from Palestine went to play the Egyptian soccer team they were all Jews not one Arab. The Arabs refused to take on this definition until 1967. If Israel wants to continue to exist it must do this behind safe natural borders which give multiple protection. For this reason the Muslim lover, in the white house is doing everything to establish another Arab country number three for the palestiinians in order to wipe Israel off the map. The area he wants to give them is the Sudetenlands of Israel. this is why the Moslem are so eager to fet their hands on it.

Alter says:

Yakov Hillel:
Let me guess. You support the release of that scum of a US traitor Jonathan Pollard because he advanced the interests of Israel. Your uncritical acceptance of a bullet to the head of an unarmed child by a distant sniper is the kind of blind support of Israel that will prove its undoing. Thankfully people with more brains guide Israel.
