President Obama has selected Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, of Florida, to head the Democratic National Committee, the party’s organizational apparatus, through the 2012 election cycle. She is the first Jewish woman to head the Democratic or Republican National Committees. A four-term congresswoman whose southern Florida district includes parts of Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach, she initially supported Secretary of State Clinton in the 2008 primary but has been a mostly staunch advocate of the president’s agenda. According to her biography, you can basically thank her for National Jewish Heritage Month—coming in a few weeks!—as well as for an expansive national initiative to promote education about breast cancer, which passed as part of the health care law.

We take pride in our community of readers, and are thrilled that you choose to engage with us in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse). George One says:

Jews should stop supporting Obama. He is a menace to Israel and as such, a menace to all Jews.

shushan says:

just a way for the dems to use a kapo and trick naive wealthy jews out of money

Mary Ann Oppenheimer says:

What nasty, petty, male chauvinist (and incorrect — especially the Israel thing) comments. How good looking was the last DNC chair? How wonderful that a bright, capable Jewish woman is being rewarded for hard work and thinking support of the Democratic agenda. Let’s say Mazel Tov to her.

Irving Washingto says:

I like Debbie, but Obama must go. He is anti-Israel. I voted for him. My biggest regret ever. It’s too bad someone so fine as Debbie supports this fraud.

Leslie says:

Thanks, Mary Ann. The last thing we need in these times is more hate speech.

rose says:

I can’t believe a Jew is supporting Obama after the way he has treated Israel. Obama is anti Israel and anti america and I voted for him. The worst president america has ever had. How can anyone support a man that is aganist everthing that america stands for. He is dividing the country and making america look silly. We need someone who will bring us togather and make us a strong nation again.

Marc Tracy says:

@sushan you need to stop being gratuitously offensive. if you want to have opinions, have opinions. if you want to make misogynist and/or racist comments that moreover wouldn’t add anything to the debate even if they weren’t misogynist and/or racist, please find another site. please note which of your comments I deleted and which I didn’t for further reference (not that you couldn’t have found a better word than “kapo”).

perot says:

George, Irving and Rose….I concur with all you said.

I too voted for Obama. It seems each time that I vote for a Democratic presidential candidate I’m disappointed.

Carter, the anti-semite, do nothing. Clinton, in the oval office, and now President Obama…”friend” to Israel and a one term President

With friends like these…..BUT…

Hooray for Debbie ! Show them what a Jewish woman can do.

Izzy says:

Congratulations to President Obama for picking a wonderful Congresswoman like Debbie Wasser Schultz to head the DNC. May she be an inspiration to the nation.

We are lucky to have her represent Florida.

Larry says:

I agree that she is truly wonderful. Those who are anti-Obama are really simple minded. Do you think that Hillary Clinton is anti-Israel? Do you know how many Jews are in his administration? Do you know he holds a Passover seder each year? Do you know his wife’s cousin is a Rabbi? You seem to be Repuglicans, and that is what is behind all of these stupid comments.

Vikki S. says:

For all you people criticizing Obama and the Democrats, please do not be foolishly misled by the Republicans. The Israel they hold dear is not the same one I value.

Dorothy Wachsstock says:

It is obvious that the democrat party big wigs now realize that the treatment of P.M. Netanyah by Pres. Obama when he showed him the back door lost the party the Jewish voters.

Many of us Jews have voted and registered as republicans since 1994 as we became aware that this was not the democrat party of our fathers or ancestors.

The media doesn’t want you to know this. The polls show it so the democrats gave a token Jewish nice young woman the part of being the head of the DNC.

It won’t work. We do not like this Pres who does not like our country and is doing everything to destroy it.

Jews are not dumb…only those who are so busy working that are not aware..we blame the Rabbis for not informing them that this radical socialist party on the left is what our ancestors ran from to this country.

Sad for the woman and sad for us Jews who are now going to join the tea party if the republicans do not stay strong.

We feel sorry for her.

brynababy says:

These stupid anti-Obama comments are really sad. These fools who are so easily misled and who believe such aburdities are a disgrace to the rest of us. May Obama live a long and healthy live and continue to serve the US (and Israel) so well!

well, whatever…. but we’re doing so well in foreign relations under O that now even Tokyo is angry about America’s responses to their recent tragedy. But has anyone noted that Israel, as usual, quickly sent medical teams and equipment?

Asher says:

With “friends” like Obama, who needs enemies?

I’ve been browsing online more than three hours nowadays, yet I by no means found any interesting article like yours. It?s lovely price sufficient for me. In my view, if all webmasters and bloggers made just right content material as you probably did, the web will likely be much more helpful than ever before.
