Fooled By Hamas, Shame on You

One more thing about Goldstone’s retraction

Print Email
Cookie Monster.(Sesame Street)

Sorry, but I just can’t resist. In his op-ed, Richard Goldstone distinguishes Israel, with its rigorous internal probing, from Hamas, which has done absolutely nothing in response to allegations that it committed acts of terrorism, and adds:

Some have suggested that it was absurd to expect Hamas, an organization that has a policy to destroy the state of Israel, to investigate what we said were serious war crimes. It was my hope, even if unrealistic, that Hamas would do so, especially if Israel conducted its own investigations. …

In the end, asking Hamas to investigate may have been a mistaken enterprise.

Some have also suggested it was absurd to expect the Cookie Monster, a being that has a policy to eat cookies, to investigate what we said were serious crimes against cookies. In the end, asking Cookie Monster to investigate may have been a mistaken enterprise.

WAIT, WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY TO COMMENT?
Tablet is committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing on Jewish life, all free of charge. We take pride in our community of readers, and are thrilled that you choose to engage with us in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse). Starting today, then, we are asking people who'd like to post comments on the site to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping us bring you the ambitious journalism that brought you here in the first place.

I NEED TO BE HEARD! BUT I DONT WANT TO PAY.
Readers can still interact with us free of charge via Facebook, Twitter, and our other social media channels, or write to us at letters@tabletmag.com. Each week, we’ll select the best letters and publish them in a new letters to the editor feature on the Scroll.

We hope this new largely symbolic measure will help us create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all of our readers, and, as always, we thank you deeply for your support.

The reformed Cookie Monster has come to understand that cookies are a “sometime food” after he eats his fruits and vegetables. He has been quite forthcoming about his change of policy.

Empress Trudy says:

Goldstone will go down in history as the author of the 21st Century’s “Protocols” and the far left along with him.

Hershel Ginsburg says:

Here’s an interesting newsbit:

YNet reports that Goldstone wanted to publish his retraction in the NY Times, the same platform that he used two days after the report issued to blast Israel for his imagined war crimes. It seems that they NY Times refused him this time around, I guess not wanting to be forced to dampen their ideological fervor with some facts. Read about it here:

“Israel, with its rigorous internal probing,”

This is a joke, right?

Dani ben Leb says:

The naivete of Goldstone is worrying. Was he not aware that Hamas would manipulate him?
