• In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood has become “a tacit partner with the government.” Its popularity was foreseen; its ability to cooperate so well with the military was not. [NYT]

• While thousands marched in a funeral in the southern town of Daraa, Syria’s government has generally been successful at tamping down protests. [WSJ]

• In Israel, Defense Secretary Robert Gates condemned Wednesday’s bombing and the Gaza rockets while urging Israel on toward the peace process—there is concern that Israel is limited in its responses by the lack of progress. [NYT]
