Haredi Rabbis Target Popular Jewish Website

This is voz is neias today

Devoted Scroll readers know that a not-infrequent source for round-up items is Vos Iz Neias?, a Website that aggregates Jewish-relevant stories (the name is Yiddish for “What’s news?”). So why did 36 (really, exactly 36!) ultra-Orthodox rabbis call for a ban of the site and accuse it of launching a “hidden ambush”? The Jewish Star, which serves the Orthodox communities of Long Island’s Five Towns, has the goods.

The Truth About the Ban [The Jewish Star]

COMMENTING CHARGES
Daily rate: $2
Monthly rate: $18
Yearly rate: $180

WAIT, WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY TO COMMENT?
Tablet is committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing on Jewish life, all free of charge. We take pride in our community of readers, and are thrilled that you choose to engage with us in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse). Starting today, then, we are asking people who'd like to post comments on the site to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping us bring you the ambitious journalism that brought you here in the first place.

I NEED TO BE HEARD! BUT I DONT WANT TO PAY.
Readers can still interact with us free of charge via Facebook, Twitter, and our other social media channels, or write to us at letters@tabletmag.com. Each week, we’ll select the best letters and publish them in a new letters to the editor feature on the Scroll.

We hope this new largely symbolic measure will help us create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all of our readers, and, as always, we thank you deeply for your support.

I have posted part of the story which is the interest of some in containing rising political rebellion fueled by local blogs.

Any publication that is condemned by 2 Chai Rebbes, Fundamentalist Shmucks, is required reading for me. If I had my way, the Haredi would have to serve in the IDF, 99% of them would have to find jobs to support themselves and their families [eliminate Government hand-outs and subsidies] or leave for the wilds of Siberia. I would eliminate the posts of Chief Rabbi, and similar ones for towns. Israel is better off as a secular jewish State than one ruled by people who claim they are descended from Aaron, who should have been swallowed by flames after tha Golden Calf, instead of being given a monopolistic temple to prey on the rest of Israel.

Why do the moderators see the need to allow Berel’s racist remarks here?
