Ousted Egyptian president and his two sons sentenced to three years in prison
Ousted Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and his two sons were convicted of embezzling public funds and sentenced to three years in prison, the AP reports. They were fined $3 million and ordered to repay the $17.6 million of government funds funneled towards personal use.
The 85-year-old Mubarak, who was toppled from power in February 2011 during the Arab Spring, is also awaiting trial on charges stemming from his involvement in the deaths of protestors during the uprising. Detained since his ousting, Mubarak was freed from prison in August 2013 and ordered to remain on house arrest at a hospital in Cairo.
