The words “Close Mosques, not yeshivot” and a Star of David were found spray-painted on the walls of a mosque in the northern Israeli-Arab town of Fureidis, JTA reports. In addition to the graffiti, the tires of about 20 cars were slashed. The vandalism was discovered on Tuesday morning when worshippers arrived for morning prayers.

The attack is thought to be another ‘price tag’ attack, acts of violence aimed at Palestinians and Israeli security forces by radical Israeli settlers. The New York Times described these attacks as “exact[ing] a price from local Palestinians or from the Israeli security forces for any action taken against their settlement enterprise.”

This specific incident is believed to be connected to a recent border police takeover of a yeshiva in a West Bank settlement.
