Watch the Surreal Trailer for ‘Noah’

Who built the ark? Russell Crowe.

“What did he say?”

“He’s going to destroy the world.”

So opens the trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s new film, Noah, starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson and Anthony Hopkins. Needless to say, it looks amazing. Aronofsky, who most recently directed Natalie Portman in Black Swan, co-wrote the screenplay with Ari Handel, most famous for playing a “Kaballah Scholar” in Pi. (No, really.) Presumably, if–or rather, when–they win Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars, God will also get a share of the credit.

From the trailer, it appears that Aronofsky has taken some slight liberties with the biblical original. And we’re not just talking about the epic battle scenes. As Commentary’s John Podhoretz astutely noted, “there should only be two snakes.”

Two snakes or 200, however, this is now officially the Most Anticipated Jewish Movie of the Year. Watch the trailer below:
