• Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s phone call to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan helped restore ties between the two countries. Netanyahu apologized for “operational mistakes,” which were detailed in an investigation of the raid on the Mavi Marmara ship during which nine people died. No word on whether Erdogan apologized for calling Zionism a “crime against humanity.” [NYT]

• Yisrael Beiteinu head Avigdor Lieberman, who will presumably resume his post as foreign minister after his trial end, decried Netanyahu’s call to Erdogan as a “serious mistake.”

• Brooklyn Jews resist the accusation that they are responsible for clogging the lake in Prospect Park with bread prior to Passover. [Gothamist]

• Rabbi Andy Bachman offers a touching remembrance of his father on the anniversary of his passing. [Rocks Over Water]

• Chabad recounts its successful partnership with the Czarist government to ship matzo to the Jewish community in China in the early 20th century. [Chabad]

According to the Globe and Mail’s Patrick Martin, Erdogan did qualify his remarks as being specifically about Gaza and the continuing construction of settlements in the West Bank, but that he supported Israel’s continued existence. I am betting that Obama brokered this detente because both Netanyahu and Erdogan may have common grounds re: the Syrian civil war and both may be able to help the US deal with the growing disaster on their borders.
