We’ve got updates about events unfolding in Israel and Gaza as Operation Pillar of Defense began today.

The Iron Dome battery was said to have intercepted two rockets fired from Gaza that were heading in the direction of Be’er Sheva.

In addition to the killing of Ahmed Jabari (described as Netanyahu’s Osama Bin Laden), there were unverified reports that Israel targeted the house of Mahmoud al-Zahar, the co-founder of Hamas (who infamously warned the Palestinian Authority against making peace with Israel because Hamas will not give up resistance). Haaretz is now saying that it was former Fatah security chief Rashid Abu Shabak who was targeted.

For good measure, the IDF Spokesman Twitter account just tweeted this:

We recommend that no Hamas operatives, whether low level or senior leaders, show their faces above ground in the days ahead

We’ll keep you posted on what’s happening.
