Apparently rural American whites prefer Ahmadinejad to Obama

(Newsbusters)

An immediate candidate for permanent membership in the Annals of Idiocy and Unintentional Comedy™: The FARS News Agency.

Otherwise known as Iran’s state media, FARS reprinted an article from The Onion–America’s finest purveyor of satire–claiming it to be the truth. The subject of the article? The preference of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad among rural American whites to American President Barack Obama.

“I like him better,” said West Virginia resident Dale Swiderski, who, along with 77 percent of rural Caucasian voters, confirmed he would much rather go to a baseball game or have a drink with Ahmadinejad than spend time with Obama.

“He takes national defense seriously, and he’d never let some gay protesters tell him how to run his country like Obama does.”

According to the same Gallup poll, 60 percent of rural whites said they at least respected that Ahmadinejad doesn’t try to hide the fact that he’s Muslim.

Here’s the original.

COMMENTING CHARGES
Daily rate: $2
Monthly rate: $18
Yearly rate: $180

WAIT, WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY TO COMMENT?
Tablet is committed to bringing you the best, smartest, most enlightening and entertaining reporting and writing on Jewish life, all free of charge. We take pride in our community of readers, and are thrilled that you choose to engage with us in a way that is both thoughtful and thought-provoking. But the Internet, for all of its wonders, poses challenges to civilized and constructive discussion, allowing vocal—and, often, anonymous—minorities to drag it down with invective (and worse). Starting today, then, we are asking people who'd like to post comments on the site to pay a nominal fee—less a paywall than a gesture of your own commitment to the cause of great conversation. All proceeds go to helping us bring you the ambitious journalism that brought you here in the first place.

I NEED TO BE HEARD! BUT I DONT WANT TO PAY.
Readers can still interact with us free of charge via Facebook, Twitter, and our other social media channels, or write to us at letters@tabletmag.com. Each week, we’ll select the best letters and publish them in a new letters to the editor feature on the Scroll.

We hope this new largely symbolic measure will help us create a more pleasant and cultivated environment for all of our readers, and, as always, we thank you deeply for your support.

How do you satirize idiocy like that?

Beatrix17 says:

That the Iranian press
takes this seriously is hysterical. As a rural white Jewish woman
who supports Romney and who is very unhappy with Obama, and who is
able to intelligently articulate my reasons for dissatisfaction, I
don’t appreciate Onion’s satirizing (stereotyping) of me

herbcaen says:

Here is a more relevant question. If Ahmadinejad were the Democratic candidate and Romney the Republican candidate, how would the Jewish vote go?

What was the less relevant question? I don’t see a question anywhere.

As for your question…uh? Not only is it not relevant but it seems a bit obvious.

I guess FARS must have taken it down, when I click the link I get a blank screen with the message “Error For Your Request . Not Exist This Story.” Love the Engrish.

The Onion did apparently save a screenshot: http://o.onionstatic.com/images/articles/article/29/29677/FARS.png

It is not going to get easier for Republicans. This will be airing tomorrow eve:
